Two Souls at Sunset Polihale State Beach Kauai

Kauai is known as the garden isle and with good reason. This photo was taken at Polihale State Beach, the westernmost point in the USA.  According to mythology, spirits and ghosts would come to Polihale from other parts of Hawaii.  Long ago, homes were even built near Polihale with no east-facing doors to prevent traveling spirits from getting trapped inside.  After resting at the heiau (temple) at Polihale Beach, the spirits would climb the 300-foot seacliffs and leap off to get to Po ... the offshore afterworld.  Polihale means House of Po.  As the scene would indicate, the beach is both large and out of the tourist main stream. Here you will feel as if on a deserted island as you lay in the golden sand with someone special while the setting sun warms and caresses mind and body.
